Women's quarter-finalists confirmed; one spot open on men's side

Women's competition:

• Eight teams have already confirmed their place in the quarter-finals: Germany, Denmark, France, Norway, the Netherlands, Hungary, Greece and Spain
• Only two teams, the Netherlands and Hungary, are still unbeaten, with the Dutch easily defeating Ukraine today (24:14, 26:12) and Hungary mounting a comeback against Greece to win in a shootout (14:17, 16:12, 9:8) 
• Spain got back on the winning track after losing their last two matches against the Netherlands and Hungary; Spanish star Asun Batista led the team to a dominant 2:0 win against Sweden (24:8, 16:8) 
• France suffered a tough first loss in the competition as the defending champions, Germany, proved too strong for the French; Lena Klinger was the best player in the 2:0 (22:8, 18:14) victory for the Germans, scoring 20 points  
• Portugal, Poland, Ukraine and Sweden are still on zero points after the two matches of the main round and already know they will continue the competition by playing placement matches 9-12

There was a special tribute to Denmark goalkeeper coach Hanne Frandsen Holmen today, who received the news that she is in remission from breast cancer. Women’s national team players have used their bodies to spell her name, Hanne, on the court after they won their match against Portugal, honouring the wife of the head coach Morten Frandsen Holmen.

Men's competition:

• The main round provided superb action and also revealed which teams would be going through to the quarter-finals: Germany, Denmark, Portugal and Croatia progressed from group I, while Hungary, Spain and France qualified from group II
• The last quarter-final spot is still up for grabs, with Sweden, Norway and Italy all vying for it
• Denmark remain the only unbeaten team after their 2:0 victory against Türkiye (21:12, 25:18)
• Germany also entered today's matches unbeaten, but Croatia ended their four-match winning streak; Filip Dominik Hancic was the man to thank, as he saved the final shot in the shootout (26:20, 13:22, 10:8)
• The main court offered a spectacular final match of the day, in which France overcame Norway after a high-octane 20-minute battle; Baptiste Dubois scored the golden goal of the second set, securing France place in the quarter-finals
• Hosts Türkiye and Poland will conclude their Beach Handball EURO campaign playing for 9th to 12th place

The final places in the quarter-finals will be confirmed tomorrow morning when the main round of the EHF Beach Handball EURO 2025 concludes. Matches will start at 07:30 CEST.
