Morten Stig Christensen became the Secretary General of the DHF in 2007. In 2021, he moved to the role of the association’s president.
“Morten Stig has always been a person driven by the will to develop handball further while having great skills to balance all interests in the process. His death is a sad and tragic loss for European handball,” said EHF President Michael Wiederer.
During Morten Stig Christensen's leadership several EHF EUROs, including the Women’s EHF EURO 2010, the Men’s EHF EURO 2014 and the Women’s EHF EURO 2020, took place in Denmark.
Over the years, he had assumed several key roles on European level, including most recently being a member of the Nations Committee Men, the Nations Board and the the Professional Handball Board.
The thoughts of everyone at the European Handball Federation are with Morten Stig Christensen’s family and friends at this sad time.
Rest in peace, Morten Stig.
