SUMMARY: MOTW draw headlines thrilling round as men's top flight returns
The Machineseeker EHF Champions League 2023/24 resumed after a 10-week break with round 11 of the group phase starting on Wednesday with four games, including the MOTW between Industria Kielce and THW Kiel, which saw a thrilling last-second draw. Another four matches concluded the round on Thursday.
I’m very happy because we started the game very well. We were amazing in the attack. In the defence it was what Carlos [Resende, Porto head coach] said: They missed a few shots in the beginning and we were able to maintain our level during the game and that gave us the advantage. We are a happy team because we know it’s not easy to play against Porto here but we did a great job as a team.
It was another important win for us. Our start to the second half was also important when we took the lead. It wasn't the first game against Plock and we know how strong they are. Many thanks to the great fans here in the arena today.
Today we were a little bit better in our defence. We stood very tight. We came with a lot power. We knew they had big physical power, with big and strong players. I think today we could do the same. The arena was amazing and the fans all in red jerseys gave us some extra on the floor.
The whole team knew what the match was about and how important it was. We got what we expected: 60 minutes of rock-hard fighting, during which our opponents did not give up for a second. Mentally, we were strong. Even when we fell behind, we didn't crumble, and ultimately, we managed to win.
We are happy because we know how difficult it is to play in this hall. We took advantage of great green [supporters] and our counter attacks and did some good work in the first minutes. I believe that Eurofarm Pelister will progress step by step and I wish them a lot of luck.
I'm happy to play Champions League again after a long break, and we were very motivated as it was an important match for us.
GOG played very well, and we had to be awake to stay on top of the game. We are happy for the win, as we are close to be secured a spot in the quarter-finals and we want to go as far as possible.
After playing with the Faroe Islands in Berlin in front of more than 13,000 fans, it is of course my dream to play in front of 20,000 fans in Cologne. I heard that even some fans from the Faroe Islands have already bought tickets. I hope to see them there.”
We are Industria Kielce and as long as we have six players on the pitch and a goalkeeper, we will always fight for victory. We respect Kiel, but we also have our own advantages and each of our players can play at the highest level and we will show it tomorrow.
