Elche and Michalovce reach European Cup final

• on Saturday, Elche beat fellow Spanish side Rocasa Gran Canaria at home, 24:18, and claimed an aggregate 50:42 victory
• following a 26:24 win in the first leg, Elche established a 17:8 lead at half-time of a home encounter, basically removing all questions
• Zaira Benítez was Elche's best scorer in that game with seven goals, while her teammate Danila So Delgado Pinto, who is the competition's top scorer, added five goals to her tally, increasing it to 67 goals
• after Michalovce had beaten Sport Lisboa e Benfica at home 30:28, the rivals shared spoils on Sunday in Portugal, 30:30, which was enough for the Slovak team to progress
• Michalovce led by six goals at first half, 17:11, but spurred by Ana Ursu's saves, Benfica hit back and were in front 30:28 with three minutes to go before the visitors drew level

Both finalists write history

Interestingly, both Elche and Michalovce had reached the European Cup semi-final last year, but they could not make it to the final that time, losing against Antalya Konyaalti BSK and Club Balonmán Atlético Guardes respectively.

So now both sides made a step forward, and actually they wrote history, as neither Michalovce nor Elche have played in the final of a European club competition before.
