Podravka, Gloria clinch victories; Györ and Esbjerg also win
The seventh round of the group phase in the EHF Champions League Women 2024/25 threw off with two exciting matches, as CS Gloria 2018 BN snapped their losing streak and secured the first win in two months, defeating Nykøbing Falster Håndbold 37:29.
I am really proud of my team, they played together and they played collectively. I am very happy for this victory because it is a really important one.
We missed a lot of chances to score. We became stressed and Bistrita played their way. We couldn’t come back in the game, unfortunately.
It wasn’t a pretty game, it was a real fight, and unfortunately, we lost the fight today.
We are not satisfied with our defence in the first half, but we improved this segment in the second half.
We wanted to show the fans that we can play much better at home, but we were also aware that Rapid is a tough opponent despite the injuries. Our defence was good, Hata (Hatadou Sako) performed well in the goal, we were able to try several variations in attack, so today was a real team performance.
Györ is a great team, they cruelly took advantage of all of our mistakes, our defence was not good. We managed to try every solution, but it was obvious that we had problems, especially with injuries; one happened today during the warm-up. It is encouraging that we fought for 60 minutes, but against the defending Champions League winners, our performance was far from enough.
It was tough in the first half; we were passive in attack and lost a lot of balls. We conceded many easy goals from counter-attacks, but it was much better in the second half. I believe that in the next game against Esbjerg, we can perform at the required level for the full 60 minutes.
In the first 15 minutes, we played very well in defence and achieved an eight-goal lead. I know it’s tough to play here, so it was essential to gain an early lead to allow for a calmer continuation of the game. Buducnost was better in the second half and made it harder for us.
