While it had not previously been possible to install the goal-line camera in handball goals directly above the goal line itself, this breakthrough has now been achieved through a close collaboration between the EHF’s goal provider BENZ and EHF officiating technology partner VOGO.
Following the successful test at the Women's EHF EURO Cup Finals, the system will be implemented across all six venues at the Women’s EHF EURO 2026. The EHF EURO 2026 will be played in Poland, Romania, Czechia, Slovakia and Türkiye from 3 to 20 December.
The new cameras, one in each corner of the goal, sit precisely at the junction where the post and the crossbar meet. The way they have been fully incorporated into the metal and the posts’ inside wooden structure is unique in handball.
According to George Bebetsos, Head of the EHF Officiating Unit, this is “a technical milestone not met in any other goal sport."
With their new position, the cameras sit safely and precisely above the goal line, delivering a direct perspective of the line and thus eliminating room for error and visual guesswork.
