Györ edge out Ludwigsburg, Esbjerg win MOTW
Györ bid their time and struck gold with their second win of the season, in the rematch of last season’s final against Ludwigsburg, while a flawless second half lifted Brest past Buducnost. In the Match of the Week, the Danish derby was dominated by Esbjerg, the reigning champions of the Danish league, who took a 39:30 win against rivals Odense.
I am very happy with the points we won today. This will surely prove to be a confidence booster for us, and a win that will point us into the right direction moving on. It is never easy to integrate new players, but I feel like we're all working to help the team, and I'm confident we can only get better.
First half was good, but we had some moments when we were really struggling in defense. We've had a bad start to the second half, and simply weren't able to get back into this one all the way until the end.
We are happy about the fact we were able to play on a high level throughout the full course of the game. We were struggling a bit lately in the Danish championship, but I feel like players were ready to compete today. Good start of the match, solid in duels, and good movement on the defensive side of the ball.
We faced a good team today, but we also didn't perform the way we can. We were not strong enough in duels falling eight goal behind early on which made it very difficult for us moving forward. Attack was better in the second half, but unfortunately we already lost this match in the first.
Small rotation is a problem for us, but despite that we missed way too many clear chances, especially from the wing positions. We should have used those opportunities much better, especially knowing how hard it is to find space down the middle of the defense when facing French teams. Their goalie had some great saves which helped boost their confidence while at the same time kicking us completely out of the desired rhythm.
We played a good match. The defense was excellent which helped me make some saves and slow Buducnost down. On top of that, we were running the court well in attacking transition in the end securing a win.
Well-deserved win for Gyor in the end here today. On the other hand, I have to be honest and say we managed to stick to our game plan for this one very well with those tiny little details deciding the game in the end. Playing without two of our line players, as well as head coach, it was crucial to see such a solid team effort.
We spent the entire week preparing for this match, and it was truly a team effort out there today. There were moments when we faced certain challenges, but Sako was there in those key moments to help us out. We are very proud of our performance here today in this amazing atmosphere.
